OBJECTIVE
The Avant Film Festival is a fictional annual film festival in the city of Chicago. They celebrate classic films and their contributions and influence in modern films.
AUDIENCE
The film festival appeals to lovers of classic films as well as trying to attract a younger generation of filmgoers. In order to continue an appreciation and understanding of classic films and their importance in the modern film industry, appealing to a youthful audience is a must.
SOLUTION
In order to appeal to a younger audience, I went with a more grunge-y and dynamic look. To pay homage to the classic element of the festival I designed the graphics after Saul Bass’s cut-out style. In the poster and in the social media graphics, I created images and illustrations that were vague pieces of classic films to spark curiosity. The logo uses a basic film strip, but with a Saul Bass cut-out style edge.
